Julie Houck Workshops

Painting workshops cover fundamental techniques & classical principles of observing nature with emphasis on light, color & composition.

April 20-22, 2012 • Springtime in Carmel: Plein Air Painting Workshop

Paint in charming and picturesque coastal Carmel this spring. Learn how to fine-tune your powers of observation and develop your own artistic style based on understanding the fundamental principles of light, how to determine the color of light, and how to create the movement of light. We cover color mixing, how to apply color and value to light relationships, and how to develop form and perspective in the landscape through the use of light and color. The components of composition, developing depth, aerial perspective, light and shade, and form in the landscape are also be covered.

September 20-30, 2012 • Landscape Painting in Southern France

Spend time exploring, painting, and finding your own inspiration in this magnificent area. Paint in and around the picturesque village of Limoux, with its medieval bridges and churches, colorful narrow streets, and animated market days. Travel to nearby towns to paint beautiful southern French landscapes: wildflowers, vineyards, wheat fields, fishing villages, and the Pyrenees mountains.
