The program is a two-week workshop combining practical and theoretical concepts in the art of true (buon) fresco. Day field trips to nearby sites will reinforce the cultural and historic context reviewed at the studio. Methods and materials will be examined from cave wall painting up to present day applications. The program includes: 12 days of art instruction, all art materials for fresco panels, accommodation for 14 nights at the Spannocchia Castello with all meals, two field trips, transportation from/to airport, use of art studio, and pool.
This project is being done in coordination with The Spannocchia Foundation. The Foundation has done a beautiful integration of historic architecture and landscape. Spannocchia is a center for education, a working organic farm, and a multinational community. Located twelve miles southwest of Sienna, Spannocchia was picked by Travel+Leisure as one of its '15 Favorite Green Hotels'. Spannocchia was also featured as a 'Top 10 Ecolodges and Green Hotels' by the Independent Traveler 2007. The February issue of Bon Appetit devoted a 10-page article to their amazing food.
Workshop includes lectures followed by demos & hands-on practical sessions, field trips to nearby sites. Methods & materials are examined from cave wall painting up to present day applications. Participants complete a minimum of six painted frescos.
